I may have jinxed things

No sooner had I posted about finally riding outdoors than my neck of the woods started getting a rise in COVID19 infections. Blech.

It also appears that more infectious and/or damaging mutant variants of the SARS-CoV2 virus have officially made landfall on this neck of the wood’s shores.

And so, exactly a year after COVID19 first made waves in the Philippines, we have lockdowns again. Only thing is, government is loathe to call them so because they are desperate to get the economy going…after consistently denying and downplaying the COVID19 pandemic’s impact, which led to the economy tanking harder than it should have in the first place. But I digress.

As much as I’d like to ride outdoors and try to mentally tune out of this news, that would be irresponsible. I am fortunate enough to be able to continue cycling indoors, so that will continue – and things haven’t really changed, in that sense. Any outdoor rides I do will be just around my immediate vicinity and neighborhood.

You CANNOT make this up.

If you are similarly as fortunate, I implore you to do the same. This resurgence of COVID19 cases – multiple successive days having 7,000 or 8,000 new ones getting reported – is no joke, and hospital beds have filled up. The less I say about how government has royally screwed the country out of vaccination, the better…but if you are lucky enough to have access to any vaccine, please take it. For some of us, it’ll be a while.

Stay safe and stay healthy. Let’s do our part so that we can all ride outdoors another day.
